Your Challenges Will Set You Free

Like most people, you are run by the spells (unconscious beliefs or conditioning) that you took on when you were quite young.  What are these spells?  They come as feelings of inadequacy (not enoughness), fear, self-judgment, anger, resistance, despair, helplessness, and hopelessness.  As you grew up, you learned how to hold onto the energy of these spells becoming a human doing rather than a human being.  Why?  Because that was the only way you knew how to block, numb, or get away from the pain and discomfort of your spells.

The way back to the free-flowing aliveness you knew when you were very young is to stop fighting the pain.  How do you do this?  By bringing awareness and self-compassion to this bound up energy inside of you.  It is about slowing down for a few moments here and there, and as you do, you can begin to notice what is going on in your body and your mind.  This process begins with just noticing, and then curiosity kicks in, and finally self-compassion.   This is why the challenges in your life are for you and they will set you free.  They are tailor-made so you can get to know them, be with them, and then let them go.

As you learn to be with your own pain, a miraculous thing happens.  You can experience healing with others.  Stephen Levine, author and spiritual teacher, says: “If our habitual conditioning is to try to overcome our pain, we will have a tendency to feel overwhelmed when things don’t go the way we wish … If we can open to our own pain and explore our resistances and long-held aversions, there arises the possibility of touching another’s pain with compassion, of meeting another as we meet ourselves with a bit more clarity and tenderness.”  When you can be with my pain, I can be with yours.  It is all healing of the heart.  You have such an exquisitely beautiful heart, but it was shut down when you were young.  It had to go off-line because it was not safe to keep your heart open.  But healing happens when you allow your heart to open.

I invite you to think about healing with your heart as a process of letting life back in.  Remember that your heart has been shut down for most of your life.  Be tender with yourself.  Touch your pain with kindness and self-compassion, even for a brief moment, and just let it be.  You are learning to meet it with mercy instead of fear and this is where your healing begins to happen.

  1. Thank you, Mary, for this always blessed and powerful reminder to be with rather than being without.

I hope the following is not too long. I need all of the reminders I can gather, to see myself for who I am to myself, and my world.

I wrote this a while ago; another heart sake reminder….Godspeed everyone, Sky Ann

Again, it is fear that keeps life away, and it is courage and self trust that is the antidote. My best teachers have turned out to be those that could not or cannot love, allowing me to dig deeper for compassion and mercy.

Those I currently admire most, are those with a strong belief in their desire and right to live a strong and healthy life. I will need this desire to navigate this last part of my life. I want this because I finally have the opportunity to live, and feeling the freedom, I don’t want to lose this creative chance to become who I was born to become. To become all of the me in the mystery!

    1. AWAYS, ALWAYS THANK-YOU! YOUR TEACHINGS ALWAYS HELP RE-MIND ME, RE MEMBER WHO I AM!!!!!!!!!!!!!
