Mary says:
"Even
though we understand that we can be compulsive about most
any activity, our core compulsion is to struggle—to
try to control life whether it is the length of the
stoplight or our mates behavior. If you had a little door on
your forehead you could open and be able to watch hear your
inner conversations all day long, you would notice that you
are constantly trying to make yourself and your life better
or different than what they are. This internal struggle
cuts us off from truly being alive."
